Black Walnut Winery is pleased to announce the release of three new wines. As of yesterday (Black Friday, Nov. 25), they have expanded their wine inventory to now include Chardonnay 2008, Pinot Gris (Dry) 2008 and Blanc Franc 2008.

Winemaker Lance Castle crafted the newest wines to each be very different, enabling each wine to become a vibrant part of  their already-diverse portfolio. (View winemaker Lance to the right discussing wine with TownDish’s Ryan Hudak.)

First, the Chardonnay 2008, available $19 per bottle, was aged for a short period to give it a slight oak aroma. “I only let the wine run through a partial malolactic fermentation, which left an upfront pineapple flavor, a creamy mid-pallet and a crisp acidic finish,” said Lance.

The Pinot Gris (Dry) 2008, available $16 per bottle, was macerated on the skins for 24 hours prior to the initial fermentation which gives this wine a smooth luscious flavor.”

The fermentation and the very ripe fruit developed floral and peach aromas, which also showcases bright flavors of mineral and stone fruits,” he revealed.

Their Blanc Franc 2008, available $16 per bottle, is made from red Cabernet Franc grapes that are crushed and left on the skins for 18 hours.  The grapes were then pressed and fermented without a secondary malolactic fermentation. “The result is a true rosé with upfront aromas of strawberry and apple,” he said. “The flavor progresses from peach with hints of strawberry to crisp apple. This is a very complex wine with a long, smooth finish.”

The Black Walnut Winery team had a great time making these wines and they have been waiting patiently to release them until they were ready.  ”It was difficult to wait for the wine to fully develop, but we are thrilled with the final result,” Castle concluded.
