He Said, She Said: Jenny and Nick

July 4 Posted by Amy Strauss 2 Comments

These singles get an excellent “tip” on dating as they explore the Downingtown area for a date at Victory Brewing Company.

The Singles:

Jenny
Age: 31
Job: Project Analyst
Hobbies: Volunteering, shopping, being the best Aunt ever
Nick:
Age:30
Job: Customer Service Representative
Hobbies: karaoke, playing guitar, working out

The Restaurant:

Victory Brewing Co.
www.victorybeer.com
420 Acorn Lane
Downingtown, Pa. 19335-3040
(610) 873-0881

First Impressions:

Jenny: I was 10 minutes late because I had gotten lost, so Nick was at the table waiting for me. When I saw him he seemed pretty cute. He was
wearing a white polo with jeans, I think.

Nick: Jenny was very nice, but not exactly my type.

The Date:

Jenny: The planned activity was dinner and a tour at Victory with bowling afterwards; it all sounded fun, so I was up for it.

Nick: We planned to go to Victory Brewing Co. for dinner and then bowling.

The Conversation:

Jenny: The first thing I did was apologize for being late. I am never late, so I was really thrown off my game. I knew very little about him, so I asked him about his job and where he grew up. Basic get to know you questions.

Nick: We talked about where we grew up and what we did for a living.

The Restaurant:

Jenny: I am not a beer drinker, so going to a brewery isn’t on my list of things to do; but, I had heard such great things about this
place I was excited to check it out. It’s laid out very nicely inside and lots of people were waiting to be seated. The menu was awesome, there were so many things I wanted to try, it was hard to make a decision.

Nick: I had never been to Victory. The atmosphere was upbeat and the menu had many choices.

The Service:

Jenny: The service was really amazing. The restaurant manager came over a couple of times to check on us and our waiter rocked. He knew I
didn’t drink beer and because the only other option was wine (which I know nothing about), he brought over the perfect wine for me and I am
kicking myself for not remembering which one it was since it was perfect.
Nick: The service was great; the staff could not have been nicer.

Drinks:

Jenny: I had the wine mentioned above, but I think I was so nervous I forgot what he said it was.

Nick: I had a Victory lager beer.

The Food:

Jenny: We started with homemade chips as an appetizer and it was shockingly good. I didn’t think potato chips could be so tasty. They were warm and seasoned with a remoulade on the side. For dinner I got the Chicken Sandwich Carl. I saw it was served on a pretzel roll and that was all I needed to hear to try it. It was a little spicier than I would normally get but it was so tasty I didn’t care. It had lettuce, onions and jack cheese as well. It came with a side salad topped with a vinaigrette.

Nick: I had a pizza; it was delicious.

Brewery Tour:

Jenny: The tour was cool. Again, I am not a beer drinker but it was interesting to see the process that beer is made. It was like being in an episode of Modern Marvels.

Nick: We did not sample any beers, but the tour was excellent.

Bowling:
Palace Bowling & Entertainment Center

977 East Lancaster Avenue
Downingtown, Pa. 19335-3328
(610) 269-9999

Jenny: Bowling didn’t happen. We were supposed to meet at the bowling alley but I told Mary I didn’t want to continue the date so she called Nick and told him I wasn’t coming.

Nick: We never got to go bowling because Jenny decided to abruptly leave due to a misunderstanding.

Any chemistry?

Jenny: I felt that we didn’t have much in common. Towards the end of the dinner I felt like the conversation was really dead. I had nothing to say and he didn’t really keep the conversation going. I was hoping he would take more control of the situation, but I had to ask the waiter to bring the restaurant manager over so we could go on our tour. There was a bit of controversy over the tip situation since the meal was comp’d by the restaurant. We left the brewery and walked to our cars, separately. When I got in my car, I called Mary and she said we should have left a tip. So, I had to turn around and go back into the restaurant, explain what happened to the hostess and shell out the tip myself. I was pretty annoyed at this point. I think it is such a compliment when a guy pays for you that this was just another sign he wasn’t interested and that he wasn’t my type.

Nick: The conversation was good but, unfortunately, there was no chemistry.

Did you exchange numbers?

Jenny: I didn’t even say good-bye to him. Yes, it wasn’t the most polite move, but I felt at this point I should save us both the drama and let Mary handle it. And she did handle it with more tact than I would have.

Nick: No, we didn’t get that far.

Was it a Match?

Jenny: Not a match. I knew that before the whole “tip” incident, but friends was a possibility. Once he walked ahead of me in the parking lot, I decided I didn’t really think friends was going to work either.

Nick: No, there was not a match as a romance, or as friends.

Was there a kiss?

Jenny: Nope.

Nick: No.

Will there be a second date?

Jenny: Nope. My He Said, She Said dating adventures will continue…

Nick: No.

How did you leave it?

Jenny: I was talking to Mary and she told me I didn’t have to attend bowling if I didn’t want to. So I said I would rather not. Father’s day was the next day and I was afraid I would be coughing up more money I wanted to spend on my father and not on a date gone wrong.

Nick: Jenny was upset and called it a night after Victory Brewing Co.

  1. Wow, this chick needs to get over herself. She was late and she expected him to understand; yet, the misunderstanding over the tip – she immediately dislikes him. I think what really happened is she realized he wasn't feeling it, and she decided to just 'abort'. Really exuding class and maturity!

  2. guy sounds like a pompous jerk. She might not be your type dude, but you can still be a gentleman. And, no matter what, he should had been a man and left a tip.
